Ideas for celebrating Neurodiversity Celebration Week in the workplace
There are many ways your workplace can participate in Neurodiversity Celebration Week. Here’s six ideas:
1 – Invite a guest speaker
Inviting a speaker to share their lived experiences with neurodifferences is a powerful way to engage staff.
Elizabeth Takyi, our lived-experience neurodiversity speaker offers FREE speaking sessions for organisations. She covers a range of topics tailored to your needs. Her lived-experience includes a late diagnosis and living with dyslexia, dyscalculia, ADHD, Irlen Syndrome, dyspraxia, and other neurodifferences while balancing work. Find out more about Elizabeth and enquire about booking her to speak at your organisation.
2 – Visual Representation
Displaying infographics around the office can help create a more inclusive environment. Many employees either hide their neurodifferences or may not even be aware they have one.
Infographics featuring facts, tips, or resources can foster trust, encourage open conversations, and provide essential guidance.
This simple step could be the difference between losing valuable employees who feel unsupported or retaining them by offering the right support and understanding.
You can download our Infographics on our resources page.
3 – Engage with your Employee Networks (ENs) or Employee Resource Groups (ERG’s)
ENs and ERGs can be a powerful platform to foster conversations about neurodiversity within your organisation. If your company actively utilises these groups, consider asking them to host a session on neurodiversity in the workplace.
This can help raise awareness, provide support, and create a more inclusive environment for all employees.
4- Promote open dialogue
Encourage employees to share their stories, and if you have a Senior Leader who would be happy to share their experience that would be great.
Create an environment where employees feel valued and supported when sharing their experiences with neurodiversity.
Show your commitment to inclusivity by promoting open conversations and celebrating different perspectives.
Neurodifferences come with unique strengths—empower your staff to take pride in their abilities and never feel ashamed of who they are.
5 – Celebrate neurodivergent talent
Highlight success stories within the company. Encourage employees to share their achievements and experiences in the workplace. Spotlight successes and initiatives led by neurodivergent employees to inspire and promote inclusivity.
Showcasing these stories can help break down stigma, foster a supportive culture, and celebrate diverse talents within your organisation.
6 – Group Neurodiversity Awareness Training
Book some neurodiversity awareness training for your employees. Awareness Training is great as it supports your employees to become more aware of their colleagues with neurodifferences in the workplace.
At neurobox, we offer Group Neurodiversity Awareness Training – both online and face-to-face. Our Awareness Training supports to create an inclusive work environment, helps embed inclusion into workplace culture and encourage disclosure in the workplace.
