As part of our celebration of #WorldMentalHealthDay, we welcomed Kate O’Neill from CPSL Mind for a special Let’s Talk session with Donna Stevenson.
Guest Speaker:
Kate O’Neill
Kate is one of the Suicide Prevention Workers at CPSL (Cambridgeshire, Peterborough and South Lincolnshire) Mind working on the Suicide Prevention Capacity Builder Project. She also works as a befriending co-ordinator for an older people’s charity and has a background in community development and charitable organisations.
Kate received a late diagnosis of autism in her early 30s and has lived experience of the suicidality caused by mental health issues which in turn were the result of a lack of support for her neurodivergence. She is passionate about education around neurodiversity, inclusion and communities, all of which feed into the bigger picture of suicide prevention.
Rewatch the Live:
What an amazing and insightful conversation! Some really eye-opening statistics and information were shared on mental health amongst the neurodiverse community.
Just a few highlights to take from the talk:
⭐️ Masking is one of key culprits of poor mental health in the workplace for neurodivergents.
⭐️ Co-occurrence with alexithymia, which is a term to describe problems with feeling emotions, is another culprit of poor mental health
⭐ Autistic burnout – another major reason for declining mental health
⭐️ The 3 most vulnerable groups were identified as the LGBTQIA+ , neurodivergent and migrant groups
